Covered Areas: Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Commerce, Science, Technology, Computer Sciences, Engineering, Medical Sciences including Homeopathy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Business Administration.
Required Eligibility:
A candidate seeking admission to the course for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) shall have to obtain at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree OR equivalent Grade point. Relaxation upto 5% marks may be availed by the candidates belonging to the reserved categories. All applicants seeking admission to the Doctoral programme of the University [except foreign students applying for admission as provided for under clause 9] must clear the Dibrugarh University Research Admission Test (DURAT).
The candidates who have qualified the UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGCCSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE/teacher fellowship holder or have passed M.Phil programme (in regular mode and in the concerned subject) are exempted from appearing the DURAT. However, these candidates have to apply for admission as per the University Notification. These candidates have to appear a viva-voce/ interview for getting selection for admission. Not more than 50% of the seats in the subject concerned shall be filled up by the candidates, who are exempted from appearing the DURAT as per the provisions above.
A candidate may also be enrolled if he /she has any other degree recognised as equivalent to the Master’s Degree in the subject in which the candidate wishes to pursue a course of research, provided the candidate fulfills the conditions above.
Under special circumstances, a candidate may be allowed by the Research Council to undertake research in a subject other than one in which he/ she has obtained Master’s Degree. Before permitting the candidate to do so, the Council shall satisfy itself that the branches are inter-related and /or the candidate is competent to undertake research in the particular subject as evidenced by published/practical works.
A candidate with a B.E./B.Tech Degree with a valid JRF-GATE score may also be considered for admission to the Ph.D. programme.
How to Apply for Dibrugarh University Phd Admission 2023
Students who are willing to pursue Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme under Dibrugarh University need to apply online for DURAT 2023. The candidates need to visit the DURAT Portal given in the website www.dibru.ac.in to apply online for Dibrugarh University Phd Admission. Candidates are advised to follow the following procedure
- The candidate shall be required to register in the DURAT Portal given in the websitewww.dibru.ac.in by entering Full Name, Password and a Mobile Number. The candidate will get an OTP in the Mobile Number which is to be entered for Activation.
- After Activation, the candidates shall be required to login by entering his/ her Mobile Number and password. The candidate can then apply for appearing in the DURAT by selecting the desired subject
- The applicants shall be required to pay the Application Fee of Rs. 700/- only through the online payment gateway by using Debit (ATM) Card/Credit Card/ Internet Banking during the submission of the online Application Form. No other mode of payment is acceptable.
- The applicants can save and review the information entered before submission, which can be edited on subsequent login. However, after submission, editing of information shall not be possible

The DURAT 2022 Appeared Candidates:
The University shall publish the Subject-wise lists of Short-Listed Candidates prepared on the basis of the performance of the DURAT, 2022 and these candidates shall be eligible to appear in the Viva-Voce to be conducted by the Department/ Centres for Studies concerned.
The Short-listed candidates (will be notified by 13.01.2023) shall have to submit the following self attested documents at the Office of the Department/ Centre for Studies concerned from 13.01.2023 to 25.01.2023 during office hours-
- A print-copy of the Online Application Form of the DURAT 2022 submitted to the University.
- Copies of the Pass Certificates and Mark Sheets from HSLC to Masters Degree.
- Copy of the DURAT 2022 Score card.
- Caste Certificate (in case, the Candidate belongs to SC/ ST or OBC/MOBC/ Differently Abled category.)
- No Objection Certificate (in case, the Candidate is employed).
The DURAT 2022 Exempted Candidates:
(DURAT is exempted for CSIR-NET (both LS and JRF), UGC-NET (both LS and JRF), SLET/SET (NE Region), GATE, GPAT, M.Phil (in regular mode and in the concerned subject), and Teacher Fellowship holder candidates.)
The DURAT Exempted Candidates are hereby informed to apply online from 04.01.2023 to 22.01.2023 through the portal given on the DU website as “Apply for Ph. D.(DURAT Exempted candidates)”. During online application, they will be required to pay an application fee of Rs. 500/- through online mode. After successful submission of application form and payment of the fee, the candidates need to take a print-out of the application form and the hard-copy of the application form along with the following self-attested documents needs to be submitted at the Office of the Department/ Centre for Studies concerned on or before 25.01.2023 during office hours
- Copy of the Award Letter (in case of UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE/GPAT qualified candidates or the Teacher fellowship holder candidates).
- M. Phil Pass Certificate and Marksheet (in case of M. Phil passed candidates).
- Copies of the Pass Certificate and Mark Sheets from HSLC to Masters Degree.
- Caste Certificate {in case, the Candidate belongs to SC/ST or OBC/MOBC/ Differently Abled category.}
- No Objection Certificate (in case, the Candidate is employed).
DURAT Phd Admission 2023 Selection Procedure
The DURAT shall comprise of two phases-
- Phase I: Written Test (in a single paper for 100 marks) with 70% weightage.
- Phase II: Viva-Voce to be conducted by the Department/ Centre for Studies concerned with 30% weightage.
