Educational Qualification for RRB Assistant Loco Pilot Recruitment
A) Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from recognised institutions of NCVT/SCVT in the trades of Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV), Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature & Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, Refrigeration & Air- Conditioning Mechanic. (OR) Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the trades mentioned above (OR)
B) Matriculation / SSLC plus three years Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics/ Automobile Engineering (OR) combination of various streams of these Engineering disciplines from a recognised Institution in lieu of ITI.
Age Limit for RRB Assistant Loco Pilot Recruitment
Age: Candidates applying for the post of RRB Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) must be between 18 and 30 years of age as on 1st July 2026. In other words, applicants should fall within the prescribed age limit at the time of submitting the online application form.

RRB Assistant Loco Pilot Recruitment Exam Fee
Candidates will have to pay the prescribed fee as per their community/category detailed below:

For UR/OBC/MOBC Categories: Out of this fee of Rs 500/-, an amount of Rs 400/- shall be refunded duly deducting bank charges, on appearing in 1st Stage CBT.
For SC/ST/Female/PwBD Categories: This fee of Rs 250/- shall be refunded in due course duly deducting bank charges as applicable, on appearing in 1st Stage CBT.
Refund Process: Refund (duly deducting bank charges as applicable) of examination fees, wherever applicable, shall be credited only to the bank account seeded with the candidate’s Aadhaar number. During the application process, candidates will be required to validate their Aadhaar number.

RRB Assistant Loco Pilot Selection Process 2026
The recruitment process shall comprise of the following stages:
- First Stage CBT (CBT-1)
- Second Stage CBT (CBT-2)
- Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
- Document Verification (DV) and
- Medical Examination (ME)
FIRST STAGE CBT (CBT-1):
- Exam Duration: 60 minutes
- Total Questions: 75
- Maximum Marks: 75 (1 mark for each correct answer)
- Negative Marking: 1/3 mark will be deducted for every incorrect response.
- Normalization: Scores will be normalized for exams conducted in multiple shifts.
Question Standard: Questions will generally match the educational and technical qualification level prescribed for the post. The exam will contain objective-type multiple-choice questions from the following subjects:
(A) Mathematics: Topics may include Number System, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM & HCF, Ratio & Proportion, Percentage, Mensuration, Time & Work, Time & Distance, Profit & Loss, Simple & Compound Interest, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Roots, Age Problems, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cisterns, etc.
(B) Mental Ability: Questions may cover Analogies, Alphabet & Number Series, Coding-Decoding, Mathematical Operations, Blood Relations, Syllogism, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation, Decision Making, Analytical Reasoning, Classification, Direction Sense, Statement-Argument, Assumptions, Similarities & Differences, and related topics.
(C) General Science: This section will include topics from Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences based on the 10th standard syllabus.

SECOND STAGE CBT (CBT-2):
Shortlisting of candidates for CBT-2 shall be done RRB-wise and community-wise as per their normalized marks and merit in CBT-1 among the candidates who have chosen the same RRB only.
Total number of candidates to be shortlisted for CBT-2 shall be limited to 15 (fifteen) times the number of vacancies notified against each RRB.
Pattern & Syllabus of CBT-2:
- CBT-2 shall comprise of two parts viz., Part-A and Part-B as detailed below.
- Total Duration: 2 hours and 30minutes & Total Questions: 175
- Part-A: 90 minutes & 100 questions
- Part-B: 60 minutes & 75 questions
- There shall be negative marking @1/3rd marksfor each wrong answer.
- Normalization of marks will be done for CBTs held in multiple shifts.

SYLLABUS for Part-A:
- Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, 15 Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work; Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock,Pipes& Cistern etc.
- General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and decision making, Similarities and differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.
- Basic Science and Engineering: The broad topics that are covered under this shall be Engineering Drawing (Projections, Views, Drawing Instruments, Lines, Geometric figures, Symbolic Representation), Units, Measurements, Mass Weight and Density, Work Power and Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature, Basic Electricity, Levers and Simple Machines, Occupational Safety and Health, Environment Education, IT Literacy etc.
SYLLABUS for Part-B:
- Part-B is only a qualifying test in nature and shall have questions from the various trade syllabi as prescribed by Directorate General of Training (DGT).
- Candidates with ITI/Trade Apprenticeship qualification will be required to appear in the section having questions from their trade.
- Degree, Diploma candidates have to select one trade from the list of trades listed below against their engineering discipline.
Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT):
Candidates up to eight times the total number of ALP vacancies in each category/community — namely UR (including OBC-CL), OBC (NCL), SC, ST, and EWS (including ExSM) — will be selected for the CBAT based on their performance in Part-A of CBT-2. Shortlisting will be done only among candidates who have opted for the same RRB and according to the applicable reservation rules, provided they have qualified in Part-B of CBT-2. If multiple candidates secure marks equal to the cut-off score, all such candidates will also be considered eligible for CBAT.
