BHARATIYA VAYUYAN VIDHEYAK, 2024
- Recently, President granted assent to the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak (BVV), 2024 aimed at replacing the Aircraft Act, 1934 and modernise India’s aviation sector, enhance safety measures, and align with global standards.
PROCESS FOR REMOVAL OF RAJYA SABHA CHAIRPERSON:
- Opposition has moved a motion of No-confidence against Rajya Sabha (RS) Chairperson.
- Notice Period: 14-day notice is to be given prior to moving a Resolution, outlining clear intentions.
- Passing of a Resolution: As per Article 67(b), VP can be removed from office by a resolution passed by RS with a majority of all its members and agreed to by Lok Sabha with a simple majority.
- Unlike provisions for removal of President, the Constitution does not specify grounds for removal of VP.
E-DAAKHIL PORTAL:
- The Department of Consumer Affairs announces the nationwide implementation of the E-Daakhil portal. It is an online platform that simplifies the consumer grievance process, allowing consumers to file complaints and track cases without the need to be physically present.
INDIA CONDUCTS FIRST-EVER GANGES RIVER DOLPHIN TAGGING IN ASSAM:
- The tagging exercise has been conducted under Project Dolphin.
- It will help in understanding their migratory patterns, range, distribution, and habitat utilization, particularly in fragmented river systems.

RATAPANI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY DECLARED AS TIGER RESERVE:
- Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary declared as the 8th Tiger Reserve of Madhya Pradesh.
MADHAV NATIONAL PARK:
- National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) approves Madhav National Park as the newest Tiger Reserve of Madhya Pradesh.
KILAUEA VOLCANO:
- Recently, Kilauea volcano erupted on Hawaii’s Big Island.
- Southeastern part of the island of Hawaii, Hawaii state, U.S.
ANNA CHAKRA TOOL:
- The Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution launched the ‘Anna Chakra’ PDS Supply Chain optimization tool and SCAN Portal to modernize the PDS system.
- It is a Public Distribution System (PDS) Supply Chain optimization tool that leverages advanced algorithms to identify optimal routes and ensure seamless movement of food grains.
CE20 CRYOGENIC ENGINE:
- The Indian Space Research Organisation’s CE20 cryogenic engine passed a critical sea-level test, a breakthrough in its propulsion technology.
- ISRO has been working on the engine in view of its Gaganyaan mission, India’s first manned spaceflight.
QUANTUM CHIP:
- Google unveiled Willow, its latest quantum chip, marking a milestone in the development of quantum computing.
10 YEARS OF MINISTRY OF AYUSH:
- Founded in 2014, the Ministry of Ayush aims to revive ancient medical knowledge while supporting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Health Coverage.
- The Ministry evolved from the Department of Indian System of Medicine & Homoeopathy, which was created in 1995 and renamed the Department of Ayush in 2003.
- “AYUSH” is an acronym for the traditional medical systems practiced in India: Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy.
ISRO LAUNCHES PROBA-3 SATELLITES:
- ISRO launched PSLV-C59 rocket with European Space Agency’s Proba-3 satellites.
- PSLV-C59 vehicle carried Proba-3 spacecraft into a highly elliptical orbit as a dedicated commercial mission of NewSpace India Limited (NSIL).
GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION (GI) TAG:
- Gharchola, a traditional wedding sari from Gujarat, has received the GI tag.
Youngest world Chess champion:
- Gukesh, an 18-year-old from Chennai, became the youngest World Chess Champion after defeating Ding Liren of China in the final game.
- Gukesh broke the record held by Garry Kasparov for nearly 40 years.
- Gukesh is the third Asian to win the World Chess Championship after Viswanathan Anand (his mentor) and Ding Liren.
Ustad Zakir Hussain passed away:
- Recently, Zakir Hussain, the legendary tabla maestro, passed away due to complications from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) at the age of 73.
- He won four Grammy Awards, including three at the 66th Grammy Awards in 2024.
- He also received Padma Shri (1988), Padma Bhushan (2002), and Padma Vibhushan (2023).
1924 BELGAUM CONGRESS SESSION:
- Centenary of 1924 Belgaum Congress Session is being celebrated in Belagavi (earlier Belgaum), Karnataka on December 26-27.
- It was 39th Session of the Indian National Congress and was the only session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi.
- Discussed his dream of ‘Swaraj’ and ‘Sarvodaya’.
SAHITYA AKADEMI:
- Naga writer Easterine Kire’s “Spirit Nights” wins Sahitya Akademi Award 2024 [Awarded for her English novel]
Assam State Commission for RTPS:
- The Assam Right to Public Services (ARTPS) Act, 2012, ensures the timely delivery of notified public services to citizens.
- Citizens can apply for a 441 of services, including certificates, licenses, and permits, directly through the portal.

Swasthya Sewa Utsav:
- The State government launched a Swasthya Sewa Utsav in the lines of ‘Gunotsav’ to assess health institutions.
- The assessment process involved internal evaluations and external evaluators comprising Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, IAS officers, IPS officers, ACS officers, faculty members, doctors, and postgraduate students from medical colleges.
Lakshminath Bezbaroa Award:
- The Lakshminath Bezbaroa Award was conferred on Shri Kuladhar Saikia.
- He is noted short-story writer, former president of Assam Sahitya Sabha, and a former Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam.
- The Lakshminath Bezbaroa Award is a prestigious honor conferred to individuals who have made significant contributions to Assamese literature, culture, and heritage.
- The award was instituted by the Sivasagar District Students’ Union (SDSU).
Sahitya Akademi award 2024 from Assam:
- Sameer Tanti won the award in the Assamese language category for his poetry book Pharinghore Bator Katha Jaane.
- Dipak Kumar Sarma won in the Sanskrit language category for his poetry book Bhaskaracaritam.
- Aron Raja received the award in the Bodo language category for his novel Swrni Thakhai.
UN Brahma Award:
- 21st Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award 2024 was conferred upon Anuradha Koirala, as social activist from Nepal.
- The award was presented at a ceremony organised by the UN Brahma Trust in association with the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) at the Bodofa Cultural Complex in Kokrajhar.
- The Assam government observed the birthday of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma on 31 March 2023, as Students Day or Chhatra Divas in the state.
Pratima Barua Pandey award:
- Padma Shri Pratima Barua Pandey Memorial Award, 2024 was handed over to folk music exponent Durgeswar Sonowal.
- Instituted by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU)
Ambikagiri Raichoudhury Memorial Award:
- The maiden Ambikagiri Raichoudhury Memorial Award was presented to Mukul Chandra Deka, Rajib Kumar Deka, and Anupam Deka of the SRD Group.
- It honors the legacy of Assam Kesari Ambikagiri Raichoudhury, a renowned freedom fighter, poet, and social reformer of Assam.

Turner Prize:
- Indian-origin Scottish artist Jasleen Kaur wins the prestigious Turner Prize 2024.
- She is recognized for her exhibition “Alter Altar.”
- Established in 1984, the Turner Prize is a prestigious art award that highlights contemporary British art.
- The prize is named after the English painter M.W. Turner.
AXIOM MISSION 4 (AX-4):
- Indian astronauts who have been selected for the upcoming Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) have completed the initial phase of training
- Ax-4 is the fourth private astronaut mission to the International Space Station.
- Axiom Mission is jointly coordinated by the NASA and a private US company Axiom Space.
BIO-BITUMEN:
- Union Transport Minister inaugurated India’s first National Highway made with Bio-Bitumen in Nagpur-Mansar Bypass on National Highway 44.
Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav:
- The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav is a vibrant festival celebrating the rich cultural, social, and economic heritage of India’s eight Northeastern states—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
- These states are collectively referred to as the ‘Ashtalakshmi,’ symbolizing eight forms of prosperity.
- The inaugural edition of this event is being held from December 6 to 8, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
‘Gana Silpi’ Surjya Das passes away:
- Surjya Das affectionately known as ‘Gana Silpi’ (People’s Artist), was a revered Assamese folk singer.
- One of his most iconic songs, “Manuh Dekhiso Aji Bohut Manuh,” became an anthem in Assam during the 1980s, delivering social messages that continue to be relevant today.
Sonai – Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary:
- The Assam Forest Department has received the first-ever photographic evidence of the presence of the Royal Bengal Tiger in the Sonai-Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary, Assam.
- Is in Sonitpur district of Assam
- Declared as a sanctuary in 1998.
- Area of 175 sq.km.
