Speed Limit on Assam Roads Notification

Assam Public Works Roads Department (PWD Roads) had published a draft notification regarding speed limitation of motor vehicles on the roads of Assam. The Public Works Roads Department also sought for suggestions/comments/inputs from the stakeholders regarding the same. The detail draft notification is as given below.

In the interest of road safety, the Public Works Roads Department, Assam intends to issue a fresh notification to fix the Maximum Speed limit for all classes of motor vehicles on PWD Roads other than National Highways. The notification has been drafted indicating the maximum permissible speeds on the roads other than National Highways as under.

Important Points of Speed Limit on Assam Roads

• Further speed reduction, if necessary, shall be specified and indicated through road signage based on road accident occurrence, land use pattern, road characteristics (road alignment, presence of road side hazard), near curves, narrow and weak bridges as per site requirements.
• The concerned PWRD Division shall fix speed limits under their jurisdiction in consultation with local Govt. Authorities/Bodies, if required.
• This supersedes the earlier notification No. NEC. 18/2010/Pt/57, Dt. 02.04.2015 issued from the Public Works Roads Department.
• As a part of the pre-notification consultative process, the suggestions/comments/ inputs from the stakeholders are solicited, within a month from the date of Publication of this notice in news papers.
